Vickie Rice is a dedicated legal professional with a rich educational background and over two decades of unwavering commitment to justice. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of South Carolina and furthered her academic journey by obtaining a Juris Doctorate Degree from Tulane Law School.
After completing law school, Vickie embarked on a remarkable career, beginning as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Kosta Vlahos, Senior Circuit Court Judge for Harrison, Hancock, and Stone counties in Mississippi. Her tenure in this role lasted for over two years, providing her with valuable insights into the workings of the legal system.
In 2002, Vickie Rice made the pivotal move to Dallas, where she has since been an integral part of the Dallas County Public Defender’s Office. Over the years, she has held various pivotal roles, showcasing her dedication to holistic representation and justice. Vickie's experience as a trial attorney in both Misdemeanor and Felony Divisions reflects her commitment to ensuring fair and comprehensive legal support.
Currently serving as the Special Programs Division Chief, Vickie oversees critical segments, including the Mental Health Division, Engagement Division, Bond Division, and Specialty Courts. Under her leadership, the Mental Health Division's four sections operate cohesively, addressing the intricate intersections of legal and mental health advocacy. In her role as supervisor of the Engagement Division, she facilitates the collaboration of social workers and case managers, championing a comprehensive and compassionate approach to client support. Through her management of the Bond Division, her dedication to a well-rounded legal process is underscored, specifically focusing on Mental Health Personal Recognizance and 24-Hour Magistration.. And ultimately, in her current capacity, her supervision of the Assistant Public Defenders dedicated to problem solving courts demonstrates her profound commitment to enhancing the justice system and promoting community welfare.
Beyond her role in the Public Defender’s Office, Vickie Rice serves as a board member of Metrocare, a prominent entity in North Texas specializing in mental health, developmental disability, and substance use services.
Vickie's leadership and expertise make her a driving force in shaping a more just and compassionate legal landscape for individuals with behavioral health considerations.
